Split (Aspalathos Spalatum, Split, Split ... how the town changed its name from ancient times until today), the second largest city in Croatia and the center of the Dalmatian region.
The city founded more than 1700 years. The core of the city makes the palace built by the Roman emperor Diocletian.
The old city was built around the bay protected from the open sea by a high peninsula on the south side. Open sea in front of Split is full of islands to which water constant ferry lines.
The entire western side of the peninsula is a forest park, and industrial plants, shipyards, quarries and cargo port are located well away on the northern side of the peninsula.
High coastal mountains rise above the blue sea and give striking views of the city.
