Makarska

Makarska is an attractive town in the middle of the Makarska Riviera, a 50km stretch of coast at the foot of the mountain Biokovo, the highest mountain of the Mediterranean (1762). The steep, barren mountain descends to the coast, forming a series of cliffs, going down to the sea and low beautiful beaches. The foothills are protected from harsh winds and covered with pine trees, Mediterranean vegetation, olive groves and orchards. Beautiful natural environment is ideal for swimming and hiking, so it is not unusual long-standing tradition of this tourist region. Makarska is the largest city in the area and is a good base to explore the coast and Mt.. The town is situated in a natural harbor between the cape Osejava and the peninsula of St. Peter in the northwest, a landscape dominated by mountains above the city. Trails and paths where the rugged mountain range attracts many hikers, while they are less prone to adventure can relax on the beach and watch the play of light and shadow on the cracked rocks.
